Improve balance on a horse, while off a horse?

I have recently started lessons with a new trainer, whom I LOVE. Problem is, he lives about 3 hours away, so I can only take a lesson about once a month or so. He gave me a lot of exercises to work on my balance in the saddle, but my horse hurt his leg and is out of commission for the next couple months. I want to make sure I've improved by the next time I have a lesson, but without a horse to work with, I'm a little stuck.
Are there any exercises that you do outside of riding that improve your core muscles, and can help improve balance in the saddle... without actually being in the saddle? I'm considering getting one of the giant exercise balls and practicing balancing on that. I've also heard that putting your saddle on a saddle stand and posting in it can help improve your riding muscles. Anything else that has worked for you?

Anything with one of those giant exercise balls (I use Gaia) will help. As will basic yoga and dancing.

55 gallon barrel. Hung in a tree by bungy cords. Good fun and good for balance. You can cinch up a saddle if ya wanna.

Core and back exercise in general will help you. If you have a bosu balance trainer, that will help with your balance specifically and exclusivey. Ankle and calf strengthening exercises will also help.
