Interesting experience the other day.

So I went riding with my sil on Saturday. She's been riding since she was a kid, I just sat on a horse for the first time this year. I was on an older appendix mare who was very calm and cooperative, a great beginner's horse. Sil had a pony with a lot of go. Both horses were behaving pretty well so we decided to switch about half way through the ride. (I have ridden a few horses at this barn). Oh my was not a good idea. The second I mounted that pony she knew she could take advantage of me and let me tell you that is exactly what she did! First she cantered straight into a fence, stopping just centimeters before hitting it and proceeded to rub her head on it and make various angry noises (I had asked for a walk). Sil coached me through getting her away from it and that's when she took off at a gallop across the property I don't know who was laughing harder me, my sil or the stable hands that watched the whole thing go down. I didn't fall but I had zero control over this horse and decided to get off. I've never fallen yet and I don't want the first time to be because I was on a horse I wasn't ready for! The worst part? The absolute demure obedience the pony showed my sil immediately after she mounted it again Sil said she was proud of me for being so brave and not falling. I guess I still have A LOT to learn.

Some of them are just too smart for their own good.
It's great you were able to just laugh it off. I know that if that happened to my SIL when I used to take her riding, she would have killed me and never set foot near a horse again

So true. My girl T , several years ago, took my son (in his twenties at the time) straight to the barn. He couldn't do a thing. I let out a roar ,"T! Whoa!", and she stopped and waited. Poor son felt like he was on a pony ride gone bad!

Good for you sticking to the saddle!

Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the floor each morning the devil says, "Oh crap, she's up!".
