Lesson ideas?

I'm about to start giving lessons on Lacey since that's basically what I do all summer, minus giving them on Lacey, and I figured that I might as well give it a try in "real" life! Lacey's doing well enough that she'll for sure be fine at the walk and probably fine at the trot, but since these kids (I already have 3, after advertising for a week ) have never ridden before and are 6, 8, and 10 years old, they probably will only be skilled enough to walk for quite a while. And, I have no intentions of being more than a beginning instructor (so, walk/trot), I really don't know enough myself to teach more than that.

But anyway, so for the first lesson, it's just going to be getting to know me, getting to know Lacey, how to brush Lacey, how to saddle, tail braiding, etc, and no riding.
Then, I was thinking for the first riding session, I'd put Lacey on the lunge line and work on balance/heels down, etc... And maybe a little turning, that sort of thing. However, that sounds boring... Maybe if we did that and then have a little obstacle course for them to lead Lacey through? She's totally spook-proof so I could have some fun with it...

But yeah, does anybody have some super great ideas? I have an hour with each of these kids...

It's going to depend on the kid, my 8yr old walked and walked and worked on how to turn for probably 6-7 lessons, then she started trotting on the lunge line. My 6yr old was off and trotting at her first lesson, posting to the trot at her 2nd lesson and within a few lessons she was off the lungeline and trotting around.

Cones are easily moved obstacles to practice walking (and later trotting) around. Ground poles are fun to walk over, my trainer uses the Dressage Letters as points for the kids to stop at or walk to one, then trot to the next, then walk and so forth.
