hi all i think me and my horse has made a milestone with riding. she was in her paddock and i was cleaning up after her and i decided to just get on her back without anything ie halter, bit or anything and she didnt freak out or anything she started walking around her paddock after a couple of seconds i think at first i may have suprised her at first but i think this is a milestone because it took a lot of trust for me because i had absolutley no control of her so she could have threw me into the fence. maybe i can use this to build on as far as her trusting me. i think this is a milestone for her because she was in the field for about a year and wasnt ridden at all i started riding her around june and she didnt spaz on me

Congrats - though I would strongly suggest building trust on the ground. While this sounds like a step in the right direction, I think it would be better to earn her trust before mounting. Good luck. :]

You know I experienced the same thing a few weeks ago, when Ice was being testy about putting a bit in his mouth. I just threw his reins on his halter and hopped on, and he was awesome! It made me so happy, and actually built up my confidence in him that he wasn't a jerk like he wants me to believe.

Sometimes trust just works in reverse, which is SO hard especially with a new horse.
