Morning Rides

I am wanting to go for morning rides and since I have recently started feeding Buzz in the morning, I was wondering if it is best to feed before or after the ride?

If I ride in the morning ,then I feed oats before and hay after the work.

Thats what I do to, or else my horse gets naughty and keeps trying to go back to the barn because she knows its almost breakfast time, so I feed her before the ride, then hay and paddock afterwards

If I was to feed him before do you have to wait a certain amount of time?
Like with us humans if we do to much physical activity after we eat we get stitches, would horses get stitches??

You should wait about an hour generally but I like to wait 1.5 if im going to feed after a meal so they wont risk colicing.
If I ride in the morning I ride before I feed and my horse can suck it up and deal with being hungry a tad longer. That being said morning rides are around 5 or 6am and feeding is around 6 or 7am depending. It changes daily based on my friends schedule.

I usually wait about an hour, but especially with hay, or grass pasture, there's not "as much" concern...grain on the other hand...

I think I will probably feed after my rides then :)
Theres no problem with riding then feeding straight after is there?

As long as he is cool and dry, no...if he is still damp when you get to the barn, take some extra time to walk him out and make sure that he is cooled out well.
