Mounted archery

Is there any one here who does mounted archery? I am interested but want to learn more about it.

Don't know a thing about it but it sounds interesting. Mounting shooting is getting popular. Why not mounted archery?. There is a revival in those old time skills.

I want to start doing it bad. I'm a good rider, and I'm a good archer..so why not? Lol

But, the main reason I see mounted shooting more popular is because yiu can still neck rein those horses, it's ALL leg/seat with an archery horse. One hand with a gun as opposed to two hands on a bow.

Iseul I am sure you are right in your reasoning for mounted shooting being more popular but it is no excuse to keep you from practicing your self. I will do it myself as soon as I get more details about the bow types and equipment needed.

I can manage it with my bow, my horse just isn't currently ready for it, lol..Neither of them. One is finally neck reining and realizing leg doesn't mean go, and the other needs restarted.

The pictures I've seen show horses on a very narrow taped off track .. I would think once a horse gets used to that, there is no reason for maneuvering the horse with reins or seat ... It looks like horses are moving down a fenced track and rider is shooting at targets ..

disclaimer: I'm only going on pictures I've seen.

It depends on what kind of archery you are doing (which culture) Plains Horse archery association is the style I was looking at but there are also kassai, Hungarian, and Korean. I would guess most of the pictures you have seen are of kassai.

Sounds like fun and a great closeness with your horse. Good luck!
