my height issue!!

Hey all,

This is such a random thread but thought id see if anyone had any helpful advice?

My biggest horse was just over 15hh and my smallest is my current pony at 13hh. I know that I am too small for her but she is a summer project to bring on for a friends kids...
Anyway, im 19, 5ft6 and about 9 1/2 stone. To compete properly I really need a horse that's between 15.2-16hh so that I can compete in the right categories(a lot of shows over 18s have to ride horses) and I want something I can keep forever now so I need something big enough!

Well simply put im sort of scared. Iv ridden bigish horses and I sat on my friends horse today who's 15.3hh and we're the perfect size for each other but I feel so high up that if they misbehave I get scared. I don't know why but its something I need to overcome as if I got a sensible ploddy 15.3hh I would be fine but it wouldnt really have the right attitude to compete but I think if a horse that big misbehaved i'd be scared...

I just wondered if anyone had any advice on how to stop being such a wimp as I don't care what a pony does to me... It can be the naughtiest thing alive but if a horse did that id s*** myself and I know its stupid

Your exactly the same height as me, not sure about the weight =/ but I ride ponies perfectly fine and they don't seem to be hindered at all by me.

I have no advice for you. I am the same way! I have a 14.3 mustang, but I muck stalls at a lesson barn where many of the horses are a good 16+ and I can't IMAGINE getting on one of those! No thanks!

I'm also 5'6". All I can tell you is, when I first got my 16.2 TB, yes he seemed tall. As I got more comfortable with him, it doesn't seem so high anymore. I guess it just boils down to what you're used to.
