My lesson day got changed this week...

I normally have my lesson on Fridays, but this week the stables want me to have it on Thursday. The reason was because if I had a lesson on Friday, then I would be having a private lesson. I agreed to have it on Thursday, but the girl who is in my lesson on Friday normally only has a lesson every two weeks, so if in two weeks time they want to change my lesson to a Thursday again, then I think I'll say no.

I just really hope the people in my lesson are at the same ability as me, sometimes they'll put me with people that are more advanced and do a lot of jumping and last time I was with a different group it was quite difficult and I ended up being really annoying to everyone because I was scared and the horse kept refusing the jump.

Bit of a pointless thread, but just wandering if I am just being fussy being a bit annoyed that they have changed my lesson group because I would have been on my own (I really love private lessons, but they try to avoid people having them).

They should definitely be charging you less if you are riding in a semi-private or group setting. Then, it should be up to you to decide which you prefer.

Also, it sounds really like an uncomfortable situation they are putting you in if they are expecting you to jump fences that you feel you aren't ready for yet. It's not fun for anyone - especially you and your horse if you're feeling anxious about the jumps. Moreover, it's not safe! Even though it's really difficult to do, I would encourage you to speak up and say that you're not comfortable with the jumps if it happens again. It's always best to feel like you are jumping fences that are lower than what you can do than vice-versa. A good instructor should not be overfacing his/her students!

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

its not really fair to anyone for you to ride in a lesson where you are over faced, not you, notthe horse and not the other riders who are paying $$ too to sit there while the trainer has school you while you have refusals. I would tell that barn that if they want you in a group lesson they should find one of the appropriate level or just give you private ones until you are ready for the more advanced or someone else is the same ability as you.

I don't think you are being fussy at all. I think if you are paying for a lesson, you need to be in a group that is experience equivalent to you. If you need to, have a chat with your trainer and explain what the problem is and you feel that the group lesson isn't quite appropriate for your level of experience.

This is honest conversation to have. They might have a different solution for you that is even better than the options your originally had.

Good luck
