My Little Brother Wants To Ride

Okay so my little brother wants to ride and I suggested that next year Phantom will go into semi-retirement I think he's feeling his age and he does have a little arthritis is in back legs. I was thinking of having me do leadline work with my brother on him in the shows. Aiden loves the idea...BTW he's almost 5. He loves riding in front of the saddle with me and he likes trotting the best LOL. And on the weekends when he can't come to shows I would ride Phantom in the show. There is only one problem..... I kinda don't want to share my horse Lol I mean I even get jealous when someone else wants to ride him for a few minutes.....I don't know why I get jealous but when I see someone on him it's like I'm looking at another girl kissing my boyfriend. And then I make some excuse on how I don't want him to get tired so they'll get off him quicker. I don't want to sound selfish cause I want my brother to ride ....I think it would help curve his energy a bit (he's very, very high energy)...but I just don't want to share Phantom but there's no other horse that I know that is as calm as Phantom or even available to be ridden.

Do you think it's a good idea for me to let my brother ride Phantom? And how can I get over my jealousy issue when other people are on him?

This picture is oldish from 2 yrs ago but that's when aiden really started to "ride" with me.

I think it's a great idea. I'm a bit over protective of Soda too, but for some reason it doesn't bother me when kids "ride" him. It's all lead line at this point anyways.

My little brother has shown interest in riding, too.
Keep in mind that it's still your horse, and you're helping someone start their equestrian career.

When he's an olympic rider he'll be asked who got him into riding... "My wonderful sister taught me on her lovely horse, Phantom!" :)

I got to agree with this, also you got to what's best in phantom's interest too if he's starting to feel the affects of works.

Also, I've gotten perturb when other people would ride my horse when I was leasing him (I paid the majority of the lease but the trainer had final say).
I was afraid the adults would mess up the work I put into him.

Yeah, I mean I don't like just anyone ride the horses I work with, because it's so easy to mess them up!

But I think it will be great for Phantom to do some light work, both mentally and physically (if he's checked out first, and then every once in a while!) I'd say just keep an eye on him, but I think he'll be fine just walking/trotting for a while.

I think that someone who doesn't get jealous when someone else rides there horse must be a saint. It's natural, but remember that while your brother will be riding, you'll be leading, and Phantom will always look at you as his "mommy", and he'll look to you for guidance, not your little brother.

My 5 younger siblings (ages 2-12)all ride my Arab mare and we have a blast. Sometimes we ride together (for a SHORT period of time), and its great bonding. I even have some friends with Cerebral Palsey that come and ride, just real slow to work on balance and strength. At first I was a little jealous, but its really fun to think about how many people I've taught to ride.
I think teaching your little brother to ride is a great odea that will help you bond and have wonderful memories together.
