Need help with my over excited barrel mare!
So, I recently bought a nine year old quarter horse mare. She used to barrel race, it's been about eight months. The woman I bought her from had her for six months, and rode her four times in the first two months and the she wasn't messed with. So, I saddled her up after she settled in and just walked her around and noticed she was breathing like crazy and almost running me over trying walk, she's very excitable obviously as soon as she's tacked up! I tried riding her and she immediately tried to take off with me. And just yesterday I was standing next to her with my foot in the stirrup like I was about to get on talking to my boyfriend and she started like switching from foot to foot in the front, being super impatient lol. So my question is, how can I get her to relax and just walk when I ride her? Thanks in advance! :)
