Parades and barefoot

I am wondering if a horse is barefoot and has wonderful feet....can she ride in an occassional parade that way? Or does she HAVE to have shoes?

I do parades with my gelding with our mounted patrol unit. He is barefoot and I have not had an issue with his feet at all. I will say he has been barefoot for about 5 years or longer, so his feet are tough and hard.

I also ride my mare in about 5 parades a year. Barefoot in the colder month parades and shod in the summer..I haven't had any issues after the barefoot parades and she slides around more on the asphalt with shoes on.

While I haven't had mine in a parade, we ride barefoot on the road every ride we go on (unless trailering to state park or a show).
I w/t/c and I love that she's barefoot, I'd never take the risk of cantering her down the pavement if she had shoes.

I am going to see if we can get the 4H into a parade of some sort this year.. >.o That is if BO/Leader permits it.

The trick is to try to avoid a pee spot which seems more slippery on asphalt than water.
