My worst time was when I was 11ish and was taking hunt seat lessons at Providence Equestrian. I had only been riding for about a year and a half then and they put me on the worst horse they had (Starbuck). Everyone HATED to get this horse. He was SO old, slow, rebellious and just a horrible horse to ride. Normally they told you to smack him with the crop evertime you cantered, but I was trying to get him to canter without it. My teacher tells me to go get a crop, so I'm going around the area to go get one, and on my way she starts SCREAMING her head off, yelling at me to go get the crop. When she hands me to crop, I try again to get him to canter without it. Then she starts screaming at me again, "Katie, hit him with the crop!!! Hit him with the crop NOW!!!! NOW!!!" So I finally give up and hit him with the crop (he doesn't ever canter BTW) then there's this long pause . . . . then she starts screaming at me, "KATIE! WHY DID YOU HIT HIM WITH THE CROP! THAT WAS SUCH AN IRRISPONSIBLE THING TO DO!!! HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN EVERYTHING THAT I'VE EVER TAUGHT YOU!?!?!?!?!?!" . . . Needless to say I was about to hop off the horse and strangle her to death. I hated that barn . . . plus they charge $975 a month at the cheapest to board your horse! I mean COME ON! They have what, 20 acres? Anyway . . .

My best riding experience was probably herding cows for the first time with my TN Walker Spirit or the first time I rode a dressage horse (TB/Trakehner mare 'Tommy') and did my first flying lead change and canter in place :) <3 <3 <3

What a cool thread! My worst time was actually my second ride on my very first horse. I didn't grow up with horses or ride as a kid, so it was all new to me at 39. This gelding was a great horse but too young and too experienced for me. To make a long story short, he took off across a pasture with me yelling whoa and pulling back on the reins as best as I could while trying to stay on. He got close to the end of the pasture and I knew that the path going off the other end was a fairly steep hill that was mostly loose rock. I bailed off and watched his feet sail over my head. After the dust settled and I had stretched my limbs enough to be pretty sure I hadn't broken anything, I went in search of my new horse. I found him about 1/2 a mile down the driveway where he had hobbled himself with my one-piece rein. My husband helped me get back on him and ride him back to the barn, but thereafter I was always a little leery of him. He now has a great home with a youngster that's learning to rope.

My best was a ride on a friends horse earlier this year where we worked their cattle. I've been riding a little more in the past few years (I'm 48 now), and was a little nervous about going to get these cows on a horse that I had never ridden, but felt up for the adventure. We all rode a couple of miles to the pasture the cattle were in and then rode to the far corner. I don't know how big this pasture was, but it was huge. Probably 700 to 1000 acres. In the course of the next few hours, I trotted, galloped, jumped small drainage ditches and helped round up probably 300+ cows. I was dead tired at the end of the day, but overjoyed at the amount of riding and the quality of learning that I got to do.

I've had some really good trail rides since then, but nothing quite as adventurous. I can't wait to get to work cattle again!

My worst ride was on my mare Silver Sabre. Normally our rides are great, but on that day, it was just so bad. She wouldnt canter, her trot was choppy, and I just got so frustrated that I cut it short, (bad I know :])

My best ride was just last week. I went to Induna adventures for a horse ride. I got put on a rather slow but amazing grey gelding called Zee. Then for the next 2 hours, the guide and me went trotting and cantering up mountains and through forests, ending with a good gallop back home... I fell in absolute LOVE with Zee

Every girl wants their own LOVE STORY, I found mine... :)

ive only ridden like.. 10 times.. not very much!

my worst experience was when i was riding(first EVER lesson) on this 16.1.hh black american saddlebred gelding named Hunter. he tripped over NOTHING, had a very uncomforable walk, and i was riding without stirrups or reins. Anyways.. i fell off when he bucked and cantered to one side. The instructor says " Oh he didnt mean it. he was just abit nervous" I got back on, but i had a HUGE bruise on my lower back for awhile. Hunter was 8 or 9 and DEINFITLY not a beginner horse!

my best experience(so far!) was riding this HUGE 17.1hh black 3/4 perch 1/4 tb mare named Shylah. I was riding bareback, and she was great! Smooth stride, didnt trip, careful where she was going. I rode holding the reins, with my hands on my legs, and with my arms outstretched!. it was soooooo great! And that was the day i got the compliment of " You have VERY good balance!" Shylah is 5 and is a SUPER good beginner horse already!

I'm the kind of woman, that when my feet hit the floor in the morning, the devil says "oh crap she's up!"

My worst was probably when I got thrown off my 4 yr old QHxTB when I was only 14. She bolted, then took off bucking with her head between her legs and back higher than her wither all the way across the arena. I stuck it out until she got to the gate that leads out onto the driveway, and she reared and got her front legs over, so I pulled her to the side and she flipped sideways and crushed me between her and the gate, then landed on me, got back up, double barrelled me in the guts and took off bucking again across the arena. I tore ligaments, tendons and muscles in my groin, hip and up the right side of my back, couldn't walk at all for over a week and was on crutches for a while. My groin and hip are still out of whack.

My best, hmmm I have two or three even!
The first would be when I started riding my coaches inter 2 horse. I was 16, that horse taught me so much. He taught me how to ride canter pirouettes, passage, piaffe and tempi changes. LEGEND of a horse!!!

Second would be when I was at work. We took a couple of the racehorses, breakers are 'turn overs' to the beach for a bit of a test run. I got the BEST little beach pony ever! He'd never been before and was a reknowned bucker, the previous owners were going to dog him! But he didn't put a foot wrong, I had so much fun on him, we galloped the whole length of the beach and even though he was only a stocky 14.2hh cob type, he kept up with some of the tbs! I took him out into the water and swam him bareback.... best fun I've ever had on a horse!! I need to find me another beach pony I think!

Third would be earlier this year at the country dressage champs. My mare had been going well in the weeks leading up to the competition, but usually she owuld get super marey when I took her out and just be a rat bag the whole time.
I rode her the day after we got there, the day before competition began, and she was amazing!! I had never felt a horse come so light, uphill and supple in my life it was increadible. She just floated around the warmup grounds in trot and canter, I could move her anywhere I wanted etc. I had a few people come up to me after commenting on how much I had improved the horse. VERY proud
