Quick/Silly Question

This may be completely stupid, but I just haven't come across it I guess.
So what do you leave on the horse to lunge when it's cold? I blanket my horse, but my gut tells me it can't be save to lunge with a blanket on even though they run with it on when turned out. Should I have just her quarter sheet on? [It's pretty cold here already].

I feel like an idiot, but before this year I never lunged much.

I either lunge 'em nekkid or with their tack on. I've never considered lungeing them in a blanket. They can overheat far too fast.

Horses like the cold. Just lunge without a blanket, plus the horse will be moving so it will stay warm.

If it is really cold you can put your tack on with a quarter sheet.

First off, obviously that was supposed to be ... my gut tells me it can't be SAFE. Hate errors like that.

But thanks to both of you. Just seemed to me like I should have something on her to start, because when it gets really cold, I start riding with her quarter sheet on around me then take it off once she gets warmed up.

Thanks again!

Are you lunging and riding indoors?

Why not just tack her up with the same quarter sheet?

Oh yea, I would be riding and lunging indoors.
I would use the same quarter sheet.

Note - might not be the safest thing - If you are going to lunge naked (no tack) you could probably put a fitted cooler (belly band, etc) on to do the walking portion of your lunging and then remove it for the working portion.

I'm a little confused now.
So you don't think it would be safe to tack her up and put the quarter sheet on over the tack and lunge with that on once it is really cold?

I thought you had originally suggested that, so I'm just confused on your opinion of what is safe.

Thanks!

Oh no, that is fine.

I thought you might be asking about lunging with out tack.

That is all.
