Saddleseat and Western riding info needed!

Im looking into buying a saddlebred horse to ride saddleseat on. I would be keeping this horse at my home not boarding and I would really like to be able to ride it western for pleasure riding. I didn't know if you could do this but I was wondering if you can put a western saddle on a saddleseat trained horse and ride it western without the horse having any western riding or training? It would be for pleasure only and I don't want to purchase a western ridden horse because I ride saddleseat and would want to be able to practice riding saddleseat and possibly show on this horse. Yes, you can put a western saddle on your horse. It will do nothing to ruin him in saddleseat, especially if it is just for pleasure/fun. Heck you could even work him in a western saddle with your saddleseat bridle. Ha. I know we did that when my sister left her saddle at the trainers one time. :) Good luck with your new horse!

You most definitely can. Last year at the Calgary Stampede in the Cowboy Up challenge, there was a man riding his Saddlebred, he definitely stood out next to all the QH's.

I ride saddleseat and western on my TWH as well, and we show.
