scolliosis, and riding with a lean

I have a 4 year old appy. He's green broke very smart willing to learn. All he want to do is please you. Is going to make a wonderful english horse. But im teaching him western frist. To make a long storey short. I started having back pain found out I have scolliosis. Im in physical therpy 3 days a week. So I have a trainer riding him for me. So im only riding 1 day a week. He's doing great.everytime I watch her ride him im so glad he's learning. But when I ride he speeds up. The trainer said its becuzse I lean forward a little. I allso notice I shift my weight because im unconfortable. That's when he speeds up. I ride in a Circle y Equitation seat saddle. DO you think it could be the saddle that maybe I need a different shaped seat. Has anyone eles had this promblem. Im really hopeing its not my back and that im allways going to have this issue. PLease help thanks

I have scoliosis too.
Doctor has been checking me up and found out that it is getting better.
I ride my horse with a normal english saddle and I don't have any problems.
Sometimes a little pain but it's manageble.
My horse is 100% english learned so he never never speeds up when I shift my wheight when I'm uncomfortable.
Maybe you could try an english saddle?

Have you mentioned this to your therapist? Your horse is reacting to your leaning forward. When seated in a straight chair to you also lean forward or can you sit straight. When either on the horse, or the chair, lift your diaphragm or as one indelicate elderly british lady said "tits to the sky".

Can you sit on one of those balls with out pain.
Young horses will speed up when you lean forward cause you are taking your foot off the brake which is there but. Same reason why Jokies get up out of the saddle. A finished horse can learn not to change gaits till another cue is give.
I would try sitting on the ball and see if you are uncomfortable. There are several different kinds of western saddle that change your set. It is not a lot cause of course the major set is always the same. I have found that people do have preferences.
