I'm kind of getting the feeling that the OP wants a quieter horse, as her Paso is hot.

Kait18, I know that the horse can canter and trot as much as he or she wants without losing its gait. My horse does this all the time in thw pasture. But riding her and cantering can put her gait at risk. I don't know anything about twh, but I do know this goes for pasos because it has happened to me. I started cantering my horse all the time, and after a while, she started to pace instead of gait. It took a month of training to get her gait back. And regarding the trail rides and camping trips, ofcourse I can take her on one. I trail ride her all the time. But a long camping trip, I don't feel comfortable doing that on her.

I do understand. DH loves gaited. I love my 14yo KMHSA. I love my 6yo KMH. I am very glad I have a 6yo QH bc he gives me the ride I prefer. Maybe you'd feel better about this if you can both find a nicely built AND nicely mannered QH, AND give your girl an owner that can really use her. Good Luck. =D

Corporal, this exactly what I am looking into doing! And my parents also have a paso of their own so I will still have a gaited horse to ride. Thank you for understanding!
