You're not going to out-do her in a battle of braun. Try using your biggest muscle instead of your whip...your brain.
1. she doesn't respect you
2. you aren't communicating clearly to her
3. she doesn't know what you actually want...hmm #2
4. she's challenging you...oops #1 again
Basically those two things. Respect/authority and communication.
You say she's a champ in the other areas so I'm figuring it's these two.
Like other posters have said, try the circles, turn them into figure eights, reward her for compliance. Get some ground work in there.
Pay attention to what the horse is telling you before she does one of her statue imitations. Is it a challenge, is it confusion, is it fear, etc? Figure out what is going on in the horse's head and outsmart her before she acts. You should be able to feel her body changing beneath you just before she pulls this trick. When you do, make her do a circle, figure eight, just keep her feet moving.
Oh, and a horse does feel that whip. It feels a fly gently touch down. It's going to feel you smacking on it too. How a horse responds to that pain is where the difference lies, not whether it feels it or not.
