I've wanted to jump for a long time, and I just started last February.
But now I have not been jumping as much anymore, just because I get so nervous...and I don't even know why? And it's moved on to actually being nervous while riding in general.
Could someone let me know what to do? I can't even enjoy riding anymore because I get SO nervous.
I'm not sure what to say as far as advice but I do have a good friend who used to ride with me, she was nearly fearless to the point of stupidity but took a little time off from horses, got a little older and now I cannot even convince her to hold the lead rope of a horse let alone ride.
If you are getting so nervous maybe you could try and build up slowly to riding, spend time with your horse, grooming and grazing, just to get your confidence back up in your horse first? then when you ride just take it easy.
You just need to relax and re-discover that riding is fun! As above, take some time to just hang out with your horse - Maybe just ride some trails nice and slow, etc.
I find the older I get the more nervous I get of riding. At 12 I could gallop bareback with a halter and no helmet trying to chase kangaroos, and because my horse didn't really respond to stopping aids I'd just run him towards a fence. I'd get on any horse.
Now...not so much. Self preservation is part of the human condition. Breathe in and out, only ride horses you feel comfortable on, and relax. The horse knows you are nervous. Its hard to brave, but its a decision you make. Are you going to let your fear rule you?
