Question Something happend with Gypsy

Today I got on and she was freaked about the open gate. She is never like that! I mean she's so good about the gate we can just walk up to it and she will adjust herself so I can open it, hardly have to do anything!

But today she was rushing through the gate, didnt want to stop in the opening (gate was wide open) I had to do circles, go, stop, when she would push forward, back up, stop, pat and then walk through when she didnt take a step. Then start all over again...

My last trail ride she was a dream. Nothing bad happend to where it would set her back or anything like that. Nothing happend in the arena she hasnt spooked or any thing wierd. BUT the only odd thing yesterday was when I came to the barn Gypsy was already turned out. And with this barn if your on self care its your duty to t/o and no one elses unless you are gone or ask ahead of time. I don't know what went on yesterday but some thing happend with gypsy and im mad!

I got her over it and she was walking in/out of the gate fine. I then free lunged her to get all that energy out. I'll work with the gate extra tomorrow to make sure. But isnt that wired?!

Sorry hear that, stuff like that is never fun. But I think you did the right thing with making her work when she mis behaved.

Maybe the weather was changing or she was just having a mare day. I hope when you ride next time it goes better.

No its all nice and sunny not like stormy or anything.... I don't know about mare days usually its nothing that is so drilled into her head like ground manners and stuff like that. If that makes sense...

How old is she? I know our youngsters just have those days when they are goofy. One day they are fine and nothing scares them, the next a tweety bird on the fence freaks them out.

Shes 14 yrs so she's no youngster! Lol... I walked her in and out yesterday and she was fine. She was even fine to open the gate. I just have no idea what happened. I mean it was really odd.

She could just be acting weird just to be ornery.
I have seen a bunch of horses do that. You just need to show them who's boss.

I don't know it wasnt like to be onery. I mean she was really freaked. She did not want to stay in the middle of the gate mind you it was wide open so it wasnt like a crack like we usually slip out. I mean I just have to have room for us and she will go through the gate that's how good she is. But something happend that day im just not sure.

And I didnt let her get away with it, we worked on it untill I got a good reaction and then did it the next day.

Got to wonder if a wild animal had passed through the area and the scent was still there.
It always amazes me what they can be aware of that is completely out of range of our senses

Thats a good point. There are deer that eat the apples but she dosent seem scared of them just interested all she will do is watch them. Lol I wonder what horses think of deer?
