| | Started lessons again So I finally started up my Dressage lessons again. Before my hiatus I was riding Chico, an Andalusian gelding getting on in years. Today my BO/trainer put me on one of her stallions, Pico, a black bay Andalusian (he's gorgeous). I'm actually quite honored to be riding him. When he was a colt in Spain, before my BO purchased him, he had a face injury which causes him to be really tense in the jaw. You really have to encourage him to loosen it up when riding him, and I managed to keep him comfortable on our very first ride together.
We didn't do much. I wasn't wearing proper attire (I was in the middle of doing stalls so I was wearing jeans and my steel-toed hiking boots) and I'm still recovering from my wrist injury. We worked on my position, bending, circles, and impulsion for the most part. I think I'm also getting my tummy muscles back thanks to my barn work! I was able to get him to halt just by squeezing my abdominal muscles. Then I let him out into his pasture where he stayed, munching hay underneath his beautiful tree. |
