Question Tips for Cantering+Poles/Cavalettis

I'm going back to a horse camp that I went to last year, and I think I'm going to be in the same class as last year (there is beginner and intermediate/advanced). My instructor already knows that I'm going back (to the beginner class, I think), so she'll probably let me do more than the other girls. I think she was planning on beginning jumping (probably poles and cavalettis, maybe or maybe not small jumps) towards the end of the camp for the more advanced people, but we didn't have time. So if I do start cantering and jumping, I want to know sort of what to expect. I've been reading a lot about it, but of course I can't learn to ride from reading :P If anyone has tips or anything, please post here. Thanks!
