training time per week

This goes well with how many times you ride in a week.

Of the times you go riding, do you train each time go out or just relax and smell the roses?

I have a five yr old and have one heck of a time just going out and trail riding without working on specific things.

She doesn't seem to get sour too bad outside an arena, but I do limit the arena work.

I wonder if there will come a day when I will be satisfied with her training?

Sorry, I didn't see the "When to school, When to work" thread before I posted this.

Right now my horse and I have 2 lessons a week - sometimes a third thrown in so it's a total of 10 a month.

He gets one day off a week but we ride all the other days. It's been a weird transition actually, coming from our old barn which was much bigger and had a lot less "care" included in the board. Now he gets turned out without me so I don't spend the time doing that anymore. Also his stall is actually cleaned thoroughly so that's a lot of "hang out" time I'm no longer doing. There is not as much room at the new barn to do as much ground work as we used to AND I can ride him now when a few months ago he was in rehab! Lots of changes!

His hardest working days are probably lesson days. We practice our homework the rest of the time but occasionally the majority of our ride is smelling the roses and hanging out :)
