I saw it in a magazine and am looking it up online now... So, what is this? Anyway heard of it? It sounds sort of neat... Recognition for my one and only sport would be nice. What exactly is the point, and what does the program do?
I know over here in Oregon and Washington there is OHSET and WaHSET (Oregon high school equestrian teams... washington High school equestrian teams). It started somewhere back east then Oregon picked it up. I was apart of it for three of my four years in collage. Its mostly made up of 3 meets and if you do well enough you go to state. The program consists of everything from showmanship, driving, trail riding and in hand, stock seat, jumping, dressage, even cow events like team penning, roping, drill and much more. It was a blast when I did it and it seems to be getting more and more popular since the kids continue to show through out the winter then do circuits or 4H in the summer. Horsey stuff year round :-D.
This is second hand knowledge, as a girl at our barn earned her "varsity" letter. Basically she had to submit paperwork documenting how often she rode and show records. I don't know if it has to be recognized events... her's were Pony Club. It gives those who don't participate in highschool recognized sports the opportunity to still earn a letter and the chance for a varsity jacket. The letter is cool, but you can't ride in the jacket so... pff who needs it. =) I guess it also looks good on a college resume.
