Well that was fun... First fall, new horse

Well I rode my new mare today second time since i've had her. I've had her a week and a day now. I've been takin it really easy on her because she's underweight, although she's got a hay belly. And she's got a bad crack that almost goes to her white line. My farrier said it's to ride her, keep her on soft ground and make sure she doesn't get sore. So i've just been riding her for a short time both times. She's a 12 yr barrel mare.

Well I was trotting her on barrels and after heading home, she broke into a lope. So I went to stop her before we hit the fence, and she decided that going left would be easier. So she goes left, and I got kinda left kinda straight. So I kinda loose it I guess. It was a very weird fall. My left foot looses the stirrups and because she turned on a dime, my body swung to the right and thats were my left leg was so I had my right foot in the stirrup still. I think I was trying to grab her neck to stay on, but that didn't work. So I kinda swing to the right and fell off. I'm not even sure how I landed, but I think I landed on my left foot and my right knee, as my right knee has a stain on the knee, on my jeans.

She's a very loyal horse already and after she realized what happend she stopped by me and waited for me to come back. She had a, OMG! What happend? Are you okay? type face on. It was very cute. So I got back on and rode her some more.

I already love her to death. She's very different from the pony wanna be horses i've have/had. She's very fast and turns on a dime. I'm just glad my first fall was an easy one, and not one that I got hurt from, 'cause then I really would be scared I think.

Here's a couple pics of for everyone..

She's VERY cute! I know how you feel though -- I've only had my mare for a little over 2 months now, so we're still getting to know each other. She spooked one day and threw me off, and bolted twice on other days (stayed on those times luckily!) It happens SO fast sometimes I can't really even remember the fall, just one second I was on her back going along and the next I'm on my back in front of her!!! At least your mare stopped and waited for you, that's a good thing -- mine did the same and I was grateful -- because I was thrown over her head by a buck so had she not stopped I would have been saying hello to her hooves in my face!!

That's what i'm most scared of. Getting ran over. I'm always watching barrel racing wrecks on you tube so I had a bunch of thoughts going through my head lol.

Sorry to hear about your fall and congrats on your new mare! She is beautiful and seems like an absolute sweetheart.

And OF COURSE she wanted to lope through the barrels! Lol. She is a barrel horse after all.

She reminds me of a horse that used to be at my barn. She was a Palomino too. Very cute!

Awww, your mare is gorgeous! Such a sweet face!
I had my first fall off my new horse a few weeks ago, well, I've had him a year so he's not really my "new" horse anymore, haha. It was a similar experience to yours, I was racing another girl up a hill and he spooked at a kangaroo (he thought they were going to eat him ), so he went right and i went left, lol.

Hehe thanks everyone. The look she has in the fist pic, is the one or very similar to the look she gave me after I fell. I think my left leg, above my knee must have caught on the saddle horn, because it's starting to bruise.

Haha, I read your post without looking at your location, and was thinking "Where the hell were they riding for there to be a random kangaroo? And why didn't she expect her horse to spook at one?" Then I saw that you're from Australia, and it all made sense.

Haha, yeah, i don't think he had ever seen one before though. All the other horses were relaxed, like "yeah, whatever...", but Shea got really stressed. He kept checking over his shoulder to make sure they weren't stalking him, lol!
