This is me as a kid on my first lesson horse. They didn't have stirrups short enough! I would say just don't expect them to be doing a lot of "riding". I mostly just sat on my pony, walked around, and maybe trotted. Just getting that balance and exploring the horse without a lot of stress. I am so happy I learned how to ride so young. I credit the natural balance I have today to it. Just be sure that once you start, your paycheck can afford the life of horses you are in store for ;)

My kids are all grown up with kids of their own, my oldest grandson is 13yrs., he started out arourn 4 riding with me, I have a buddy seat that goes on the back of my saddle and he rode on there for a few years, he even learnt how to trot/post back there LOL now you should see him ride by himself and man can he ever post! I think it's great to get the kids involved at a young age if they want to but not if they really have no interest...

My horses are the joy in my life.....

My son has been a passenger on his own pony since he was 2. The first year was just being led around our yard & arena. His year as a 3 year old was spent in leadline classes at local shows, being dallied yo our horses in the arena, and two trail rides in the fall dallied to my horse. He was still a passenger and as we approach his 4th summer, we'll see where his focus is at. He likes setting up his own obstacle course in the arena, but he's proven with swimming lessons that he listens to teachers better than Mom and Dad, so I may enlist a friend for coaching.
