    What did i do wrong?

What did I do wrong in this part?-Alright so last Saturdays ride went well but was abit problematic. Ok it started out when I approached Ana and I could tell on her face somethin was up. Well anywas I tacked her up and stuff, but when I tried to get her to stand so I could mount, she kept movin.. and I had the reins in my hand and I kinda nudged back and said "NO! NO! STAND!!" then she stopped, then when I tried again and she did it again so I repeated what I did the first time, and she stood. 3rd time she did it again, well by this point I am thinkin this process is going to continue, so I lead her over to my trainor and ask her to hold her while I mount and I finally got on.

    2. Well after I mounted I started to warm Ana up by just kinda walkin and neck reinin her through the cones.. then idk, she just started to speed up and kept tryin to trot when I was only askin for a walk.. So I kept tellin her "easy anna! EASY!!, WALK....! Walk....!" and she kinda slowed but kept tryin to speed up. Well then when I finally asked for a trot ( I could tell she was going to do somethin funny) she then fast trotted and then into a lope (which personally was fun, because I like to lope), which I also did not ask her to do because I did not kiss to her. So I then told her easy, and she kept flippin to a trot, fast trot, lope.. idk what was goin on, so I halted her, and just kept tryin to keep her at only the pace I was askin for. SO I don't know what I was doin wrong.

    3. Then when we where gettin ready to go trail ridin, I was goin out of the arena and going to wait for the trainor, I had a horrible time tryin to get Ana to stop.. I would get her to stop then she would take baby steps, lol as if to test me.. but I kept on her and after pullin back, sittin back, and constantly askin for a HALT! She finally stopped.. I am confused there why she wouldn't stop.

Idk from what I was feelin from Ana was alot of ENERGY and restlessness. I think she was really testin me, but I am not for sure.. I just don't know if I did anythin wrong or where I could improve. Ana banana is a well mannered horse, but she was really actin up.

Then at the end of the ride, I put her halter on and tied her up.. and just petted her and gave her some lovin.

The really good thing on that ride was I loped for abit, and man canterin is SO much fun!

I am just stressin, because I don't know what I did wrong or what I could do better.

Obviously its hard to really tell what you may be doing wrong when we can't see what happened :)

Is it possible she is in season making her particularly marish? Possum can do all sorts of wacky, silly things when she's in heat.

Did you check her over for anything that may have been causing her discomfort? The rushing etc sounds like there was something annoying her or she was nervous about something going on around her. Your tack all fits well I assume :)

    Spring fever??

Was there anything new around that she may have been wary of? Doesnt matter what. We all know how pathetically simple something can be to us and how to the horse that very same thing can be a scary monster about to devour them :)

I know you guys are just coming out of winter over there. Was she worked much during the winter or are you just bringing her back into work. If so, maybe she's just full of beans??

If she has had the winter off then maybe you have too. If so, are you maybe just a little rusty and not giving her commands like she knows them?

I have no idea of your exact situation so im just throwing some ideas out there :)

Sometimes horses just have 'one of those days' same as people do ;)

Hmmm. Well from the horses I know, they can be good and some days they can be just ol' plain bad....
How long has it been since you've ridden her? I know that horses that haven't been ridden in a bit tend to get excited and just want to go.
If I were you, when she went faster (I do this too when horses do something I don't want them to) I would of just said a strict "Auuh!" to her and sat back and tugged on the reins softly.

Sorry I can't be more of a help.

Jazzyrider had some great questions to consider.

Mine would be, how relaxed were you in all of this? I wonder if it started off with something Jazzy mentioned (being in season, just feeling good, just not being in the mood to stand still, etc) which concerned you, which made you tense, which made her tense, and you fed off each other. It's hard to say though without being there!

Don't knock yourself too hard. As Jazzy said there are a lot of factors to consider when a horse acts different from the norm. You might try doing some bending/softening exercises with her when you first get on. I usually do a stop/back with Vida when she forgets what whoa means. At the stop make it all one movement. "whoa" "back" go forward several times

Well I did notice that the saddle was leanin abit to the left side. And also there was 4 other horses in the arena, so when one started to trot and I was only in the walk Ana would start up in a trot. She didnt try to trot everytime she saw another horse speed up but she did do it a few times.. Idk, I was feelin pretty relaxed, other than gettin alittle frustrated that she was bein a turkey. I ride her every saturday and when I am not ridin her, I think my trainor is.

Sounds like the horse I rode this weekend.... circles!! When she tries to go faster than you want, just do small circles and change directions and make her listen to what you want her to do so she forgets what she wants to do.... she probably was just testing you and maybe just riled up..... all horses are like that some days

Yerrrp. She was just probally testing you. What she can get away with, and want she can't...figuring you out if you like. Remember do it right the first time, don't keep on avoiding her problems.
Also you being relaxed can help.
