Smile What Should I Do For Fun With My Horse?

Well I actually don't own my own horse for starters. I ride at a boarding place where there aren't any other young riders when i'm there. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to things I can do by myself with the horses that I ride. I sometimes ride without an instructor and want some fun things to do. Thanks for reading!!

To me, simply being near a horse is super fun :P But any kind of obstacle course, gymkhana games (key hole, barrels, bending poles/cones, etc.) done at the walk, trot, and canter are fun. Patterns and figures, especially low level western reining ones or low level dressage test or something on those lines that gives you a set of gaits and changes to accomplish. Ground work is fun, but that's usually not done under saddle haha.. but I like to take a big exercise ball and teach the horse to kick it back :) Bareback riding is really fun too. As is steering without reins as in dropping them gently on the horse's neck or tucking them under the saddle pommel (for easy access) and trying to go around the arena and do circles and figure eights and such.

Just be safe!

For non-riding time check out horse agility. It's fun and helps sharpen up the groundwork.

So, if there aren't any "young" riders, does that mean there are "old" riders?

I guess you think us old riders don't like to have fun too?

I'm flattered when a young rider spends a little time with this old guy. Often, I learn things, or remember things from long ago.

Youth has enthusiasm, old has experience. Works well for me, just saying.

Look up trail class patterns...they are a great change of pace and keep your horse's mind busy and sharp.
