Ha ha! That's a gait called the fino. It's a very, very fast rack. It isn't "unnatural" -- they're bred for it, like all gaited horses. It does look weird though!

The fino is just for show. Pasos have other, more practical gaits they are primarily ridden in.

My friend owns a Paso, and she doesn't do anything like that!!! Lol she's just a trail horse, so she gaits at a regular pace as opposed to the "fine pace" that is seen in the video.

They probably have to be trained especially in that gait to bring it out. Trail horses certainly have no need for it. It certainly doesn't look very energy efficiant. ;)

I'm sorry, but that [gait] just looks like there is something seriously wrong with them. Not to knock the breed or the showing of them, but that particular gait is..... "******ed" is the only word I can think of. It looks like they have to go pee, or they have ants in the pants, or someone stuck a stick up their rear,.. or something.
I'm sure their normal gaits are prettier. =)

On the other hand.. it must be nice to have a smooth horse! - My horse is like riding a pogo stick on a gravel hill. =P

Paso Finos doing the "corto". Beautiful to watch

My own Paso does a Largo, and paces if I don't keep him in check.

Altho it's beautiful to watch one would think that at that speed it would take all day to go no where.
