Where are the saddleseat riders?

I'm just curious if anyone on this forum rides saddleseat? I know there aren't many of us...that's why I decided to create a thread for us since we really don't have a section. And please no bashing or saying it's cruel or other nonsense about it, because we get that enough already..

I loved gaited horses and anything else leggy and showy, but have never ridden then saddle seat. Where did you all learn (I've literally never seen a saddleseat rider in real life), what breeds do you show, and in what classes?

Brighteyes, the answers to your questions.

1. My RI taught me.

2. I currently show a Morgan/Friesian. I have shown full blood Morgans, an Arab, and a Saddlebred before.

3. I've shown in Saddle seat Pleasure, Equitation, and Pattern.

I'm much better at saddle seat than hunt seat. Mostly I though I just love saddle seat.

Thanks for the questions Brighteyes!

1. It was the first seat I learned to ride, mainly because it was the closest barn to my house and I fell in love with it.

2. I lease a National Show Horse (arabian x saddlebred) and have for a couple years, but I've mostly ridden Saddlebreds with a few Arabs and a Friesian thrown in there

3. I just show at local shows at the moment (I'm not a huge show rider, I do for the h*ll of it) so I ride in english pleasure and equitation classes, it's fun being the only saddleseat rider there xD

I rode for a little bit with my Arab. And I enjoyed it. Not many shows at all that have saddleseat around here anymore. But wondering what my new Morgan would be good at, will probably have to settle for huntseat. I don't think he's going to be a western horse (games and obstacles oh yeah). So I've got to find what my girls will show in 4H.

I don't know much about saddleseat. What is it exactly and why do people think its cruel?

Saddle seat itself isn't what people think is cruel (at least I don't think so), but some people in this world think that the training methods used on saddle seat horses are cruel, when in truth many of the horses used in Saddle seat are already high action movers and don't need to be trained for high action. It's more of a lack of information than anything else.

This is the world of Saddle seat. It's a form of english riding that includes lots of action, mostly on the horses part, and very strict equitation.

I like this last video best despite its poor quality.
