Yesterday I got up on Nick for the first ride of the season. The last time I rode him was nine months ago.
This is a big deal for me, since I'm so nervous on the first ride and overcoming irrational fear of falling off. Plus, we've been working on his feet for the last year. He has no cracks and no flares anymore. He is still a bit flat on the sole, but that will come around.
This wasn't a long ride, only 10 minutes, since both the old boy and this old fraidy lady are out of shape; so I kept it short and easy on the muscles.
What a great ride! First I was thinking "only down the driveway and back" and then because he was so good, I went a quarter mile to the neighbour's driveway and back. I wanted to go further, I felt good! But he was starting to tenderfoot on the gravel.
We actually trotted a bit, then he pranced back up the driveway. Hubby was watching and said he definitely pranced and I was smiling and feeling very secure and safe.
Back up on my fuzzy boy tonight. I'll try and get some pictures
