In a few movies I've seen, the rider guides the horse by pulling the horse's mane to the left or right. This would mean
He wouldn't need a bridle or reins. OMG!! Is this possible??

Sure is. You shouldn't need a bridle and reins anyway for basic stop, go and turn control ;) Just learn to use your seat and leg correctly/effectively and there you go

I've taught Ray to let me run up beside him and jump on barebakc, cartwheel off him, and backflip off him. It comes in handy when he spazzes out and sends you flying. He'll let me jump off him while he's still walking if I'm riding bareback, but with a saddle, I make him fully stop to get off.

I sooo want to ride Hidalgo like Hopkins does in the last stretch of the race when it's him against the British lady's mare and the Arab stallion.

That would be AMAZING!!!
