My light bulb moment? When I decided I am me, not part of the people, doesn't matter what I decide to do, or not do, as long as I am having fun safely, then the rest of 'those people' are of no significance.

I'm never going to be Olympic level, I may never even be much good, but by as heck lad I'm going to enjoy it!

When I was really young my one Grandmother took me to watch my youngest auntie competing in a pony club thing, she thought I'd really enjoy it but apparently I got in real strop and threw a tantrum because I wanted to do it and not just be an onlooker - I was taken home in disgrace
When I was a child/teenager I believed that I could do anything on a horse that I put my mind too and then I learnt to be realistic!!!!!

Athor Jane Smiley says in her book, "A Year at the Races" that a true horse gal realizes that boyfriends, husbands, kids, & career have all been substitutes for horses. That statement gave me a lightbulb moment.

I don't think there is such a thing as "you people." I say that because every rider out there can improve. We just like to pick a few "you people" that we want to replicate, surpass, or put up on a pedestal. You'll reach all of your goals soon enough. Don't let comparing yourself to others hold you back or slow your progress. Challenge yourself to surpass "those people." We were all afraid to canter once or trot a cross rail. Years from now, you'll look back on your journey and what you've accomplished. And hopefully, some other rider will look at you as a "you people" and you can inspire them to be their very best! :)

Strength is not defined by physical ability. It is determined by your actions and the compassion of your soul.

[QUOTE=tiffanyodonnell;3414737].I guess what I am trying to communicate is that I am happy with riding for my own enjoyment. I am happy even if we are not correct or well schooled. And I love reading about and trying to reach a higher level, as long as it doesn't destroy the joy I feel, the Joy I waited 30 years to feel.

I took years of proper riding lessons before I went out and got a job so I could adopt a rescue horse. My trainer wasn't happy with that at all because she thought I needed a well schooled dressage horse. I wanted a rescue though (its a long story). So I finally convinced my parents to let me buy this cute little Arab mare. I bought her with my own money and I stopped riding at the barn I went to and now I board her at a good friends house for cheap! At first, I wanted to train my horse, Kavala, to be an amazing jumper! But after awhile I realized that I just wanted to ride for fun. So I did(: No more stress. I ride in a position that's comfortable and I let her be comfortable too. She is a feisty little thing though! She's bucked me off and she's ran through small jumps and she's done a quick turn to get me to fall off, but i've learned to enjoy our riding. I won't ever be a Olympic rider, or even an amazing one. But I do have fun. I got over my fear of her playful bucks and her anxious attitude, and now I enjoy it. I am not happier that I have ever been, and I owe it all to my girl.
