I have 2 Ribbons that I love dearly, which I achieved last year during the 2010 Eventing Season.

My TB and I were supposed to do Novice last year, but I bumped him down to Beginner Novice because of a sticky stifle issue, and even though he recieved 2 thumbs up from our vet, I just didn't want to over do it.

So we did only 3 HT's last year, and placed 2nd, 2nd, and 1st. My boy, placed 3rd overall area 8, for BN Senior Horse. And I placed 1st overall area 8, for BN Senior Rider.

I have 2, rather large, beautiful ribbons on my wall. One for me, and one for my horse.

For me its probably when I would have been 8 or 9, at that point might have been 70lbs soaking wet and all of 4'3". I was riding a 15.3hh mostly draft pinto horse (probably a pmu baby) at my first show which was some pc rally. I entered the bareback class as I was used to doing w/t/c bareback on the horse and no one else riding him that day would even ride him bareback normally.
Looking back, the judge was probably marginally terrified about this tiny kid on this massive, ill tempered horse (i would be), but we did everything (some kids didn't canter). At the end the judge said something about judging the class based on harmony and we ended up winning it. Which was sweet.

Second face would be the one time I was riding a horse and showed one show in first and second level. The show office was I think slightly confused and there was nothing in the prize list but at the end of the show we ended up with the highest average overall with our first level scores and the second highest average overall with our second level scores, so got a champion and a reserve ribbon. This is the same horse I won a reserve championship on in a 50 horse field hunter division later in the year. She even placed over the sandbagger trainer on a seasoned hunter in one over fences class.

And my favorite ribbon to look at is my freestyle champion ribbon from last year, its like 3" long and pink and purple.

It was my first real (non-IHSA) show and my first hunter equitation novice flat class with all three gaits (WTC) being tested. My trainer and I had a come to Jesus meeting about 6 months earlier, and it cut me to nothing. So, I'd spent the previous 6 months before the show being the best student I could be, doing things that surprised even him.

I was riding a college horse, Ryan, who was a pretty 7-year-old, 16'2 hand chestnut TB. I had an amazing round, and placed ... second out of 9, 10 riders maybe? I was (am) so **** proud of that ribbon. :)

You should be proud, you realized your mistakes, worked hard and did your best.
(I've had a few of those meetings myself)(but you see... I know all about riding and don't really need a trainer..... )

So glad I'm older and wiser (I think)

Isn't it amazing when you look back and go... how am I still alive?

I think my favourite ribbon and one of the only 4 I have so far was from my first intro level dressage show. It was probably 3 years ago now and I rode a school horse called Waldo.

Test A I think we placed 4th because he spooked and almost left the ring. Test b we placed 1st and got such a high score that we won overall at intro level. The judges and even some of the spectators stopped me after to say what a great ride i'd had.

I just thought of my second favorite ribbon. So same horse as before, my little 14.1 ugly duckling. I entered a jumping class with the max height of 3'6". Now I wasn't really ready for this height but my boldness overrode my common sense and away we went.
Now I had only been getting lessons for about 4 months though I had been riding trails and crazy horses for years. I went up against some tough competition but was estatic when I made the jumpoff. Well my little girl went like a devil through the course and I nearly took a leg off on a standard and lost my stirrups over the 3'6" but we placed second behind a much more experiance fellow student on a 15.2hh jumper.
(Honestly, I don't know why my trainer let me jump the course as looking back I had no business being out there, but it sure was fun).

Thanks! Of course, I conveniently left out the fact that I lost to a 13-year-old, but such is life. And I'm definitely older now, but I'm not so sure I'm wiser.

My favorite ribbon from my Half arab was probably about 6 or 7 years ago. I was ridden H/J at the time and the show I went to had a bareback class. I entered into it. I was told I did not need to post, but in order for this horse look nice I needed a more forward trot, so posted bareback. After we did the canter that direction they had us change directions. Instead of the order of w/t/c they had us go immediately to canter and my horse got a little ticked about it and threw a huge buck and I slide to the side, but hung on (I had no mane to grab either because it was braided). I knew I was not going to place in that class but I wound up getting 1st. That was such a great feeling.

My favorite ribbon with my paint horse is when I had entered him into a grooming and conditioning class and he was a major turd. He reared straight up and almost went over backwards. I knew that class was a bust, but I still showed as I normally would have. We won that class. That was fun because the other exhibitors were ticked off at me. :)
