Youth Quarter Horse Racing?

I hope this is in the right spot..

Several months ago I was reading about the history of quarter horses and the local racing that earned them their name, and I noticed that AQHA has a youth racing division. It occurred to me that my gelding might really excel at it (he's very competitive and DANG- he can sprint).

I sort of put the thought aside, but it keeps coming back! I want to find out more about it and figure out if its reasonable for me to try it.

Has anyone had any experience with this? I'd love to know more.

I'm not looking win anything, I'd definitely participate recreationally at first, if that's even possible.

I think I'd be okay weight-wise as far as jockeying goes. I weigh 120 now and could probably get down to 110 without looking like I'm going to keel over.

I hope someone who actualy knows for sure will chime in. But to my knowledge all the racing is preaty official. Like there are no 4 H type races or anything that's low key just for fun. Do some research in your area. Get up with some local trainers and see what they know or can find out

I think that sounds like fun. Lots of people race quarter horses. A lot of people I know have OTQH (off track quarter horses) as barrel horses. They get the name quarter horse because they excell at running a quarter mile. If it interests you, you should try it! I hear it's a lot of fun.
