Talking ~ It's amazing how unfit I am! O_o

Today instead of just normal arena work with Night Heat, me and my jumping instructor went on an outride to look for Sargent Pepper (silly chestnut gelding). This is totally out of the ordinary for Night, so she is all excited and frisky, wanting to go in front of Discovery (my instructor's horse).

We cantered a few times on long stretches, and I was surprised to find out how unfit I was! Okay, Night Heat does have a really big canter stride, but I think I was probably breathing harder that she was! Yeesh...

On the way home she also got a little too hot in the head and even when Discovery stopped, she carried on past him trying to race with Sarge. Even though my instructor told me to take a sharp turn to face away from home I was a little nervous to turn her so sharp going at that speed.... Once I did that on another horse that spooked and he stumbled and I made a half fall/half dismount. So I just sat back and pulled until she was slow enough and then I turned her around.

Anyway, I seriously need to get more fit.... I think I'm going to go back to cycling again.

Join the club! I was so shocked at how unfit I was/am. I'm going to start running with our 6 month old puppy to try and get back in shape (and wear out some of his energy!)

Yeah, this time of year really sucks. I don't get as many riding opportunities in the winter and during the summer my arms and legs get a lot of muscle and then winter comes along and it just depletes and I turn into a weak, out of shape saddle lump instead of an active and strong equestrian. Its difficult and you just have to keep working! I started going to the gym more this winter and that made a world of differance.

Good luck :)

Thanks everyone. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Sarge was an idiot and stayed out in the field when the other horses came back, so me and mighty bald one had to go out looking for him. LOL, we need to get fit...seriously...
