I have a question about this? What if the child is 10 almost 11 but rides a horse?
I was told that jods w/ garters , jod boots, and pigtail braids were acceptable for children under 13 showing in fun/schooling shows and 4H. Would it still be acceptable when riding a horse, not pony?

Horses and children, I often think, have a lot of the good sense there is in the world.

If it is a tiny child on a horse then it should be OK. If it is child that is near full grown height even though they are young, then no, it is not OK.

I am 13 and I ride with braids and jods, but only because I am too small on my pony. I will be getting tall boots this September for the 2nd time. If you are riding a horse and you are over 10, get some tall boots and put your hair up. It looks ridiculous. Also, you might want to consider a GPA IRH or Charles Owen helmet if you are showing at an A show.

A lot of the younger kids in our 4H group cobble together outfits partially from Goodwill to use in schooling shows lol, and they all do fine. The english riders in our group are all 14 and under, and none of them have tall boots yet.

My daughter hasnt really decided if she wants to stay riding english, we agreed on a year which will be up in Nov. She has been to 2 shows , a 4H show and an open show and did pretty well for just starting out. She wore braids and garters. I kinda am on the fence about getting tall boots at this point. If she stays with English then I will get her a pair next spring. I bought hair nets so for her big 4H show we will probably pull her hair up and net it.
She has an IRH helmet that is used just of showing .
