Colors for western?

I'm going to do the fair this year with my 21-yr old Paso Fino gelding. For my birthday, I'm going to get the attire I will need. So my question is what *Western* show colors would my horse look best in? He's a chestnut. I have a black saddle, a red/brown breast collar, and a black bridle. I have a lime green saddle blanket, but can buy a different colored one to correspond to my outfit if need be. What colors should I wear to make us both look good?












All advice appreciated! Sorry for the picture overload. I'll be doing showmanship, trail class, and maybe a few others. Will the attire be different for those?

That's the URL....I like #7 on that list a LOT. Would that look good and be appropiate for the classes I'll be doing? I'm not going to buy until I know the rules for showing attire at our fair, becuz people say they're really strict. (You have to have a leather lead line exceeding 5 feet or something with a 6 inch or more chain.....). Anyway, lemme know what ya think!
Oh- and I really don't like the color pink so I'm trying to avoid that lol

Hmm I love picking out outfits lol. I would get a light blue saddle pad. Do you need a breast plate? I would try giving your bridle a good oiling.
As for you I love the classic flannel shirts(light blue to match) with a little sparkle it would look good on you. As for pants a black fitting pair will do.

My general rule of thumb is this:
If your horse is fairly plain colored and will "blend" into the class, use some brighter, age appropriate colors to make you stand out. If your horse is a little louder, you can go more subtle.

Since your horse is solid color, you can easily put something like a lime green blanket on him with a color coordinating shirt for you. I would suggest getting a smaller blanket as the green one pictured is too big for the horse and saddle. Some suggested colors:
Bright pink
Lime green
Turquoise or teal
Yellow
Royal purple

Thank you. I purchased the black top I posted from a company for a good price....It just arrived today, but it was shipped to my dad's house so I have to wait till tomorrow to see it.

I'm not that into pinks or yellows, but teal, lime green, or purple sound tight! Maybe the purple, light blue or teal, as I'm getting fairly bored of lime green lol.

About the outfit....If I have the shirt here (Hobby Horse Clothing Co. - Horse Show Apparel, Attire, Accessories) I would get black chaps, pants, and hat, right? What about the boots? Mine are getting too small, so I'm going to buy a new pair of cowboy boots anyway....Would a belt be okay? I have some really cool belt buckles that I could wear, but they have brown belts. I think that would clash o_O

In regard to the breast collar, will that red-brown color look tacky in the show ring against the black of the saddle and my outfit, and the bright color of the saddle blanket? We have a few breastplates, the kind that are just a band of leather that hook on to the D-Rings, in the horse supply box in the garage. I could shine one of them up if that looked better. They're dark brown in color.

I didn't quite understand the comment about oiling my bridle....The headshot of Arthur was taken a few years ago, and my bridle had been overdue for an oiling and was really old. My new one is plenty supple from me oiling it after every few rides, and cleaning it with leather cleaner after every ride.

Regarding the breast collar, it is very uncommon in this area to see breast collars in Western Classes. However, that may not be the case in your area. Check with friends who have shown in your area or a trainer in the area to see what the "norm" is.

Actually, I only have a few horsey friends and none of them ride English. Anyone know what the norm is for Ohio?
