Dyeing suede half-chaps?

I just purchased a pair of used black 100% cow split suede half chaps that are in excellent condition, just have a few spots that are discoloured. I'm wondering if there is something that I could dye them with that wouldn't bleed too much, as I have a white horse. Would leather shoe dye work?

I show western events on the local and QH level. I have black chaps that I re-dye every year. If you go to the local store like Walmart or something, you can pick it up, it's like RIT or something..comes in all colors. You can just throw them in the washer with it or do it in the bath tub. (I have never had a issue with it staining anything and I have expensive show saddle.) Just follow the instructions on the box and hang dry. They come out great!
