Field Boots?

Any suggestions for a good pair of show boots? I had to sell my Ariats because the no longer fit, way too tight in the calf, I couldn't feel my toes after 10 mins. I've never worn zipper boots... I worry too much about the zipper causing problems.

I have the Ariat Challenger field boots. They do have a zipper. I had to replace the zipper once and i've had them for a number of years. When the zipper broke (i replaced both at the same time) I took them to someone who is known for their work for riding boots. I have not had any problems since. I love these boots and I would never go back to not having a zipper along the calf.

I have a pair of Ariat field boots that zip- am very glad I bought the zippered ones! Most of the girls I rode with at the time thought I was crazy since the zipper might break. I figured a zipper could be fixed but the woman who sold me the boots at the time pointed out that if you fall the emergency room tends to just haphazardly cut boots off without care. (Zipper diagonally across the front anyone???) My father is still upset about the boots they cut off in the 70's...

If you do fall and wind up hurt- its worth having the zipper. The EMT's will NOT pull your boots off in my area- the potential of a broken bone or making an unknown injury is not worth it to them. They will chop the boots off however they can- and it usually makes the tall boots unusable afterwards.

Lucky for me I bought the zippered pair like the lady suggested since a few months after I bought my current pair I fell and wound up unconscious in the ER. :) It would really have sucked to have to buy ANOTHER brand new pair only to have to break them in all over again after they had just gotten broken in...

I would rather fix a zipper than buy/break in new boots!!! However the pair I have currently (bought in 2007) still have a perfectly working zipper.
