Question How to wash show jacket

I have a lovely showmanship jacket that is black polyester material on the bottom with soft lambskin at the cuffs, shoulders, collar, etc. with rim-set crystals. Just got back from a show where it was so hot and even though I took it off as soon as possible, the top has some serious stinkage of the armpits.
Has anyone hand washed or machine washed a similar garment? The care tag has been removed, but I called a dry cleaner and they said it would be about $20 - $25 to send it for "leather method" dry cleaning.
I'm afraid if I wash it, the leather will shrink and pull back from the polyester part.
Please share any success/horror stories.

I recommend dry cleaning. If you want to hand wash, look into forever new fabric care wash. If the manufacturers tag is still attached, possibly contact them as well

Hand wash in cold water with a very mild detergent like Woolite. Do not wring after rinsing, and lay flat to dry.

You could also try Dryel, which is supposed to be similar to home dry cleaning. Don't know how expensive it is, though.

If you know the maker of your coat you might be able to contact them directly or search for instructions on the net.

Honestly though for expensive garments I send them off. It's more expensive but safer.

Dryel doesn't really clean stuff, IMO. It's just a sheet you stick in your dryer with the clothes. Looks like a regular dryer sheet.

If it was me I would hand wash as Speedracer suggested. I used to send to the drycleaners but found out they used fluids so I thought what the heck I might as well do it myself and save money -- all my projects have been successful so far. You may also try sponging the areas that show as dirty and leave the rest alone.

Should you get it clean, there are armpit shields you can wear that will prevent the transference of sweat to the garment. Not expensive.
