Question IRH helmets vs Charles Owen helmets?

Which brand of helmet is better IRH or Chareles Owen? Im debating between the Charles Owen AYR8 or the IRH Elite EQ? Does anyone have either of these helmets and if you do would you recomend it? Thank you

The best brand is the brand that fits your head the best!

Both IRH and CO are both certified helmets, so neither can be the 'best', when they both pass all the testing required of them.

You need to try them on.

CO don't fit me right at all, nor do IRH. However GPA and Ovation fit me like a glove. When helmet buying you need to go try different brands on because they all are made different and have different fit.

Did you have someone fit them for you?

Whichever one you like best, be it price or look wise, if they both fit properly. Since they both meet all the same safety certifications, it comes down to personal choice.

I went with CO over IRH, because (at the time) the CO was a lower profile, and I didn't feel like such a bobble head. However, I had also just tried on the IRH, without someone helping me, so had gotten the wrong size. Wearing a poorly fitted helmet is like wearing no helmet at all.

I personally hate the look of a CO. At this point it comes down to what you ride and show. CO's are the favoured look and helmet of the hunter and dressage world. IRH are favoured by eventers and jumpers. At least in my neck of the woods anyway.

^^I ride in a hunter barn, and I would say the majority of kids/teenagers that are showing wear a CO.

I am very heat sensitive. It gets hot in the summer here. Show season is in the summer. I got an IRH because I "had" to have one to show AAA rated shows in. I HATED it. I wasnt even going to try a charles owen because they have no vents. I also have a long oval head, neither fit properly. I found the only helmet in my life that ever fit me again (my friends dog completely ingested my first one) on ebay because tipperary quit making them *something about technology and standards bla bla bla* and I bought it. I love the origional tipperary. It is truly THE ONLY helmet that has ever fit me correctly... that was, until, I found a GPA speed air at a local tack store... the only reason I looked at it was because it was less than 1/4 of the normal price. It was a demo and it just so happened to be custom... a 7 1/8 extra long oval... I bought it and I am saving it to show in, though I do truly love it and I would recomend it to anyone that finds a deal or has the money to buy one! I would highly suggest really searching for one if you don't haave the money to go out and buy one. They are well worth the wait and should last you a long time and not only that but they keep MUCH better than the IRH and charles ownen- they are easier to keep clean and look better and are sturdier!

I LOVE GPA helmets. I have a hard time finding helmets to fit properly. GPA and Ovation are the only helmets that fit me correctly. Love love love them.
