Less expensive riding clothes?

I'm going to be on my college's equestrian team either this year or next year. I used to ride in about 7th-9th grade but had to stop because of marching band (I was going to be a music education major, but decided to change majors because I didn't like it). I'm going to need some riding clothes, especially if I do a few shows. Since I'm paying for this myself and I don't have tons of cash, I'll need them to be less expensive/discount/on sale/used. My local tack shop has some tall boots for $50 that I'm going to pick up, but that will still leave breeches, and if I do shows, a show shirt and coat. The coats can be quite expensive. Can anyone suggest where I can pick up items like these at a reduced cost? Would you recommend eBay, or not?

Note: I already have leather gloves. Also I already have a helmet, it is blue, but planning on getting a black velvet helmet cover until I get super-involved in shows.

Ebay is a great place, I have picked up great buys there. Also another thing to do is advertise at barns and shows what you want & what size you are looking for. Hope this helps.

Hey!! Ebay is a brilliant choice as it has things that are like even 80% less then their RRP. But be shore to make shore your measurments are very accurate as some people don't do returns and re funds. Hope my answer helps!!

I got riding boots that are originally $300+ customades for $75.

Dover Saddlery has a sale catalog that comes out... quarterly? Something like that. If you pull up the item on their website it's the original price, but if you look up the code in the catalog and use the code to pull the same item up on their website, you can order online and still get the discounted prices.

You can still probably find it cheaper on ebay, but it's another option for you! You never know.

You can find alternates of things at goodwill. Such as blazers turned into riding coats.

I second the thrift store. I bought a 3.00 blazer, had it fitted and tailored for 17.00 with a local seamstress (can find fitting and alterations usually at dry clean places), then won my Novice Amt. Showmanship class at the Denver National Western Stock Show.

You can do it cheap, just make sure to get whatever you buy tailored.

Look on Craigslist, there's usually people selling loads of used show clothes.

I agree with the comments to buy online - eBay, craigslist and kijiji often have great deals. It helps to buy during the off-season, too. Plus I know 2 of our local tack shops have 'used' sections. Good luck :)
