I just got a Grand Prix Hunt Coat with stretch and really like it, I love it actually. Normally they're around the $500, and I spent $140. I got it at a local tack shop on consignment (new with tags). But there was a lady on the tack forum here who had nice GP coats around $175, and $125. Ebay too (but only if you know your size!)

Its very comfy. And it gives a good ammount. I could do up to 3' with it most likly. It's held up the one time I've ridden in it, lol! The other shows were either schooling attire or jackets were waved :)

I have an RJ Classic Essential jacket. I do actually like it a lot because i feel like for some reason it gives my back and shoulders support. I wish the sleeves on mine were a bit longer, but that's only fitting size. It looks good on me when I'm jumping, and it gives enough for me to at least have my hands half way up my horse's neck. I constantly ride with it in the rain, because almost every show I go to is in the rain. The fabric is not pilled after all that rain and cleaning, and it is still in very good condition! I think I paid something under $150 for it.

Hunt coats fit people very differently and that's one item of clothing you really want to get the correct fit in! I'd try on as many coats as you can and then look online for a good deal. JPC and RJ Classics have some nicer lower price coats, but they don't fit everyone! I have an Ariat that was originally $400 that i found on an ebay store clearance sale for $150. Good deals can be found. But you really want to get the right fit!

Yeah, l was planning on trying coats on in the stores- at least l can borrow my instructor's old coat until l find one that fits me! The only problem is that the nearest tack shop that has good coats is 2 1/2 hours away from me, so l really need to set aside a good block of time to do this :).

Well another option would be to find a good deal on ebay and pay a good tailor to get it to fit correctly. I know someone who bought a beautiful Grand Prix coat on Ebay for $50 and paid a tailor another $50 to get it to fit just right. Hunt coat with a perfect fit: $100. Not bad! I particularly like the ones with stretch panels (Ariat, Grand Prix, etc). You can get a closer fit without feeling restricted.

Do you have any second-hand equestrian stores near you? That's where I went to get my show coat. I got it really cheap since it was second hand although it was still in really good shape. Also, it was a perfect fit.

l'll check into second hand coats and tailors- there's actually a tailoring (is that what they're called? lol) shop right down the street from me, so l'll check into that.
