picking out brands? boots and helmets

Hi guys, i need some help!

I am looking at what kind of tall boots to get, I do jumpers btw.

I have been looking at Ariats and Cavallo brands so far, I'm just wondering what are the best quality boots for under $300.. please respond with brand and models (maybe links too?) of boots you think fit the description, also what kind of leather is best.

Also, I'm going back and forth between helmets, I am looking at either an IRH ath ssv or a Charles Owen JR8, both are samish prices, what would you pick?

Ariat's and Mountain Horse are the BEST! They both break in great, but I like the look of MH better just because the laces don't stick out.
I have a CO for eq. classes and it's wonderful! Super comfy and my head never get's warm.

Love my Mt Horse! I got mine 3rd of price new in consignment and is greedy enough to save them for shows only. Tried bunch since that (trying to find a pair for every day riding) and couldn't find anything feeling similar nice. Oh, well, I just keep looking...

I have the CO JR8 helmet and love it. Its comfortable, doesnt slip, has a great warranty. No bad things to be said about this helmet. It also has that velvet look so can be used for everything.

I use Charles Owen helmet for my competetion show jumping. As for the boots I would strongly suggest Mountain Horse, they are comfortable and come in reasonable prices and gos sizeing too! xxx

If the IRH ATH SSV is the same price as the Charles Owen JR8, then by all means get the Charles Owen! I use IRH products, but for the most part they are aimed at being cheap alternatives to the expensive brands like Charles Owen and GPA. I should mention though, I have tried on CO helmets and found them to be a bit heavier than the IRH... try them both on if you can. :)

I will definatly be trying on before purchasing!

I really don't like the look of the ariat boot models that are $250-$300, they look cheap, Though the leather may be nicer than other cheaper brands they still look the same.. I want a pair that look molded to your leg/calf.

I have always had Ariat boots (well I just got a pair of custom tall boots). They hold up well (as long as you take care of them of course) and look great. As for the helmet, I prefer Charles Owen (love mine!) but you should go with what fits your head correctly.

Oh, another tip. Try the boots and helmet on in the store, then look on eBay. I have seen both ariat boots and charles owen helmets on eBay, brand new, for 10 - 40% less than anywhere else...you just have to keep an eye out.

Oh yeah! I found my Ariat Heritage boots for about $40 on eBay, brand new in a box with shipping included and they were like $129+tax locally. Deal of the century, haha. eBay really has some bargains if you know where to look and when to buy.
