I have been looking for my guy also, and will say that I have noticed that in reiners they tend to be pretty traditional. So, if you are looking for something you can also use there, I would stick to black for his legs, not a lot of bling (I know....boring). Some color on your saddle blanket, that matches your shirt. Don't see neons at all, unless it is kids in gaming-at least around here. My guy is dark, and I get tons of compliments on my saddle, which is somewhere between light and medium, even tho I am not crazy about the color.
Thanks, it'll be a while if we do reining & cowhorse anyway, so I can always get new stuff. This weekend at the show somone was selling black chaps for cheap so I snatched em up. I've seen TONS of light pink tack around, so I think that's what I'm going to start out with. :)

Hoo, you'll have to come see us at one of our gaited shows~
Next year? I'm going HOT PINK. And by hot pink, I mean that I will be more gaudy than the western riders. I have a hot pink dressage whip, after all!
If you're going to be in the ammy, more muted colors are definitely more appropriate. However, teal would look FAB. Not too much, but maybe a chocolate/teal mixed pad, chocolate chaps and hat, and a teal and chocolate shirt. That would be stunning and still mature enough for the ammy.
