sewing horse blankets

I want to sew my horse's blankets this year. Does anyone know what fabric to use for heavy turnout blanket, stable blanket, blanket liner, cooler, polo wraps and shipping boots??

I thought about doing this once. I even bought a pattern.
After I shopped around for all the material and hardware I found it was much cheaper to buy an already made horse blanket than to sew my own.
