Show clothes options?

I am trying to get into showing with a friend of mine, she wears alot of flashing shirts and chaps, I am curious for breed shows do I need to wear those flashy shirts and chaps or would a western shirt and jeans work fine?

If you're in a western riding class, you need chaps. As for the shirt, must be a dress shirt, must have a tie or pin. Nowadays, flashy shirts are kind of out, they can have a bit of sparkle, but I wouldn't recommend anything patterned. There are a couple of clothing sites, which feature colour wheels to help

Today at the breed show everyone is wearing chaps and very blingy shirts or jackets. If you are planning to show breed be aware that what most people wear can cost up to $700 for one rail shirt (it's crazy) I would recommend going to a tack sale or looking on websites online for used show clothes if you are just getting into it. Go to ebay.com type in horsemanship, showmanship, and western pleasure. You will get lots of clothes that people are sellining in all price ranges. Chaps are required as is a cowboy hat.

Chaps are a must, as are riding pants under them and a "slinky" or show jacket. These can be whatever your taste is, right now the norm is bling and jewels.

You for sure need chaps and a shaped hat. Please, do not come to a big breed show with a badly shaped (or not shaped at all) hat. ESP if you are doing showmanship or horsemanship, a shaped hat is a must. No flat brims!

I have to StateLine Tack Slinky Shirts for sale under the classifieds right now that are used and very reasonably priced. I will be listing a show jacket soon, blinged but very tasteful. I also have a rail shirt that's gorgeous for sale on another site. Once these close I'll put them here too if they don't sell. I bought all these things for me online and they were too small. I guess the winter padded me up Well more than padded!

I think it does depend where in the world you are and what breed you are showing.

In the UK the showshirts that littlefish has shown would get you laughed out of the ring. The UK is very very traditional and tweed jackets and smart trousers is what you wear for inhands, Tweed jackets (very occassionaly navy in certain jackets) and beige/canary jods are the only acceptable wear.

The only classes where you can get away with something different are the arab shows where white is normal and the Big welsh cob shows where you can dispense with the tweed jacket and wear a waistcoat instead.

Depends on what breed you are showing. Quarter horse stock horse appy pinto breeds like that... I would think your jeans and shrt are fine but if you are showing thoughbreds, ponies, warmbloods etc I would wear a vest, hacking jacket and joddies. Its up to you
