I don't think it does.

If you are going to wear a hunt coat, you should wear the right shirt that goes with it.

I again have to agree with CC. It DOES look tacky having a regular button up shirt under a hunt coat.

If you want to wear a show jacket, wear a true riding shirt. If you want to wear a collared shirt, then wear a polo or a sweater over a button up.

If you're going to spend the money buying a hunt coat I don't see why you wouldn't buy the shirt to go with it. Its like showing in a hunt coat, show shirt, and jeans. Its part of the get up.

Okay thanks for the replies!

So what I gathered from this is a darker colored polo/show shirt, hunt coat, and breeches of my preference?

Would it matter what color hunt coat or show shirt I got? & is there somewhere I can find cheaper ones? I could buy off Ebay, but I am worried that if it didn't fit properly I wouldn't be able to return it ...

If you're going to go for a hunt coat, make sure its a propper show shirt. And that your breeches are tan. Horse Supplies & Horse Tack HorseLoverZ.com is a great site that always has cheap things and stuff on sale. And they ship super fast.

Oh and for color, for hunt coats you can never go wrong with a classic navy paired with a white show shirt. That look will never go out of style. But you can get whatever color you like as long as it fits propperly and your shirt matches it.

Black and white, or navy and white are very classic colours, and will never go out of style.

I personally have a navy with purple pinstripe, and a light purple shirt.

If you are going to wear a hunt coat, tall boots looks MUCH better, and completes the look. If you are going to wear a polo, you can get away with either tall boots, or paddock boots and half chaps.

Breeches should be of a tan variation...so that includes a plain beige, to that khaki with a greenish tinge to it. Again, its personal preference. If you go with the true tan/beige, it is easier to match any polo shirt or hunt jacket to in the future.

Ditto. Buy inexpensive and dress nice. I'm even readying my clothes to ride for the winter in the back yard and not look like a slob this winter, and I'm not showing. I think it makes you ride better. Enjoy the show! =D

I always think you should take pride in what you ride in. I'm not saying you need to be dressed to the nines when you get on a horse, but I think you should look neat.
