What size breeches should I get?

It's been so long since I actually showed a horse, and needed to wear breeches, that I forgot how to choose the correct size. Lol Since I don't want to spend all day trying on breeches until I find the right fit...Help!

I wear a size 16 mid rise jeans. So what size breeches should I try on? Why can't breeches be sized like jeans? It would make things so much easier!

The problem is, depending on where you are, the sizing could still be different.


You could try a 34 or a 36.

Your size in breeches will be about your waist measurement, although some brands fit differently. My guess is about 34 or 36.

If you're ordering these online some of them have a sizing chart. But I know brands can vary a lot. I've heard they mostly come in numbered waist sizes but mine actually came in S,M,L, XL kind of sizing. A tape measurer will be a big help. Maybe shop for a pair at a local tack shop and then once you find a brand you like you'll know what size works best. Especially since you're getting back into the feel of breeches. I was 10 the last time I wore breeches (wore in jeans since then it felt simpler) but I recently gave in to buying some a week ago just in case I go to shows.

Thanks guys. I'm going to go to the tack shop instead of ordering from online. That way I can actually try them out to see if they fit. That way I don't end up with anything to small or too big.
