I'm talking from a training perspective, in the ring I never touch the horse. :)

I touched the horse often.

Watch the judge....what they don't see doesn't happen.

I dug holes in the dirt to put their back feet in for balance.

I showed babies.

I placed their feet.

I also won often.

With babies it's different, normally weaning to 2yr old they aren't overly fussed, it always depends on the judge.

I have been taught to not pick up and place and It used to be the rules down here (over 2yr old) but it's changed and you can pick up and place at any age.
